Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club Seat Selection – Club Suite

  • 14 posts

Looking to make seat selection on flight from Tokyo in Spring 2026. Aircraft seat map is currently showing as old CW seat style. Does anyone know what happens if you select seats now based on that format and then later the suite is installed? Do BA just transfer you across to the same seat number or do they give you the chance to reselect based on the new layout? Thank you for any insight.

Since the number of available seats will change they’ll just randomly allocate you a seat, so the best advice is check once a week or so.

When the system has all its ducks properly lined up it will try and preserve things like aisle or window, but obviously different cabins have wide variations in layout so it can be pot luck. If you have paid for seat selection that is carried over, so you can re-select another seat up to the same cost if you wish. If you have suitable status then you can of course move at any time. Equally there aren’t really any bad seats with CS, so in that scenario it doesn’t matter too much.

If it’s a 787-8 aircraft then it will be CS by next Spring, a 787-9 is unlikely to be but you might get lucky as there should be a few refitted by then.

Keep an eye on it. Once I had 2 window seats selected in CS; BA changed the aircraft to an A380 and the system plonked us in a middle row of old CW! Fortunately I noticed before all the good seats went and moved us to the best upper deck pair which was fabulous.

Obviously in reverse there’s not as much risk with the seats!

Thank you AndrewT. Thank you for confirming that you can reselect the seat once you’ve paid. I’ve never needed to do that before. Thanks too for the update on planned roll out of the CS

Thank you NorthernLass. Now I know you can reselect, I’ll monitor it.

In your experience, which is the nicer seating for a couple travelling together in CS – 2 window seats or together in the middle?

We prefer 2 window seats. I can chat with OH anytime, don’t need to do it on a plane! In any case he listens to music and reads and I read , gaze out window, might watch a film. It’s very relaxing!

If it’s a day flight I’d go for window seats as I like to look out of the window but for night flights I’d go for a centre pair. Everyone is different so go for what suits you.

If you have paid to select a seat keep the email receipt and if you don’t end up sitting in it send BA your boarding pass along with the receipt to request a refund.

I prefer a window seat as it feels more spacious and private, but we are at the time of life when we’re more interested in catching up on films and reading and happy to leave the chatting, hand-holding and dining together until we get to our destination 😂

My go-to in CS is 5K for me and 6K for OH as IME these are the least likely to be disturbed by fellow pax!

You can’t chat to the other person in the centre seats as they’re so far away you end up shouting across. If we ever fly BA CS again it would be 2 window seats.

NorthernLass 🤣🤣 I know! Us too! I’ve just booked 5A and 6A (on that side of aircraft, just in case weather and approach routing allows a glimpse of Mt Fuji)

Thank you Kuestrian – that’s useful to know. I’ve gone now with two window seats
