Looking to go to Costa Rica in November. There’s only availability at the moment in economy for the return flight and I might save some points/cash/241 voucher and fly over in premium economy rather than business.
My question is, do you get free seat selection from booking in redemptions like you do with the business class. I’m still Gold Sparrow in RJ until the 8th of August, but it’s now a bit of a pain switching over the ff number
IB redemptions come with seat selection. When done in BA you get a BA booking reference but then need to get your IB booking reference (you can see it on the screen for seat selection). You can then put that on the IB app and change the Loyalty number etc.

For the past few months I’ve been able to get the IB app to accept 6-character BA references.
But if you’re not using a 241 you can book direct with IB, although IME BA are actually much more helpful if you need to cancel or change anything so I make my IB redemptions on BA.com regardless!Didn’t work for me, so I just rang and Iberia booked my seat for me.
I don’t know what it’s like on long haul but I’ve had loads of changes, cancellations, equipment swaps and seat-moving shenanigans so it’s worth keeping an eye on your bookings!
I can also select or change seats on IB via MMB in the BA app. For a few months after booking my first IB flights I really struggled to do anything with them but then suddenly the 2 systems seemed to start talking to each other, no idea why!
Been trying to find J with BAPP MAN-MAD-SJU as fancy another VS cruise from SJU in Nov for Birthday but doesn’t come up with anything but shows loads of Y if starting in MAD which don’t fancy even if I position first.
On another note Wife doing girls trip to MAD in Oct going out FR as IBS teatime flight but has got J easily with IBS for return with 9K avios & £84. Didn’t do seat selection at time of booking but on BA App on MMB said select seat for £32. On clicking sent her to Iberia and free selection..

Iberia has a few A330s with no premium economy and only five rows of business class. If you’re looking for one of those secondary destinations that they use them on, availability is tight. San Juan looks likes there’s plenty of availability from April next year onwards

Cheers for that, Can’t under y why can’t include MAN leg but call to BA maybe easier
Ideally you want the MAN leg on a separate booking, outbound, to avoid high fees
