I have just booked a Virgin Upper return for two people to Washington DC. February/ March 2026, and the total cost was 70,000 points plus £1,563 (using a companion voucher as a “Red” member).
There are good value redemptions available for NY, Washington; some for Toronto and Seattle, and virtually none for Atlanta, California / Vegas or Florida. Very variable.
My dread now is that the scheduled a330-900 neo gets changed to a coffin 787, or that Virgin cancel the Washington route. If the route is cancelled, that would give me a hat trick, after reward flights cancelled from Austin then Shanghai.
Not at all bad – I got mid-April ’25 for 43,000 + £1029 and a voucher in Premium, so the additional sounds worth it. I can’t see IAD disappearing from the route network – it’s a stalwart. They could well run a 789 on it, though, especially if the BA metal isn’t anything special.
