Correct, and thanks for pointing it out! Setting “Automatically downloading images” can do the same thing, as scammers can use a graphic (as simple as a “gif-based” white space) that links to a unique URL to identify your email as active also. So good spam management is also required (check what your email client supports) – just like a password manager, a little time setting up saves so much time every day!
