I’ve had such trouble with BA booking a reward flight to Doha (90 mins on the phone due to a Barclays voucher not working properly), I couldn’t face any further discussion and they seemed to want to end the call too. So we just focused on getting that booked and it needs to go to the back office for ticketing. Anyway, I plan to fly onward to Abu Dhabi, my flight arrives 2240 and the most convenient onward flight is 02.15 so this gives a pretty good connection time.
As the current plan would be to have to book the second leg separately, am I entirely on my own and BA wouldn’t check the luggage through even though my next flight is also Oneworld? If this is the case, if the flight is delayed enough so the connection (including baggage collection) isn’t possible, am I just reliant on goodwill from Qatar Airways to put me on the next flight?
If I do book the second leg myself using points, if I called within 24 hours would they be able to combine the two onto one ticket without charge? Or is the fact I used a Barclays voucher on the LHR to Doha flight a barrier to doing this?
I’d have thought 3 hours 35 mins is decent as even if I have to collect luggage, getting off the plane, through security and grabbing luggage should be do-able within 45 mins which would leave plenty of time? Even if there was an hours delay it would be tight but still possible?
This is the problem with OW as opposed to Skyteam for example, they won’t check your baggage through. (Qatar will generally go above and beyond the OW policy and through check luggage on seperate tickets but BA won’t)
Goodwill from Qatar is likely to be zero. Combining tickets will also be a no.
3:35 is likely to be fine though, just pick up your bag from the belt in arrivals and head to departures check in. Obviously you’ll need to pass through immigration, so depending on your passport/nationality that may be a formality (or not).
Think the Barclays voucher will stop you adding the QR connection to this booking (but let us know if you can as that would be super helpful).
I did the same but HBO which was fine although I wouldn’t have liked to have had to pass through immigration, collect bags and re-check. Feels like there’s too much that can go wrong…
