My partner and I are planning a round the world trip and we have a couple of hundred thousand avios to help us along the way. We’re trying to figure out if it’s possible to fly South America to NZ/Australia using avios but routes/operators are obviously limited. It doesn’t seem like it’s possible to book Qantas from SCL TO SYD, which would be the obvious choice.
Has anyone else done a similar route using Avios? We can be pretty flexible!
Would it be feasible to hop up to LAX and continue from there?

I think we should go with @Richie idea! It’s not exactly a “hop” from say Santiago to LA – c. 9,000km and then another c. 12,000km LA to Sydney or 11,300km Santiago to Sydney. I think people forget the position of South America on the globe whereby Santiago is east of New York.
If one is in South America, it’s noticeable for the time difference vs UK being only 3 hours in Argentina or Chile which is good for those who suffer from jet lag.
2019 we did
SCL-IPC AVIOS were supposedly available -but never were so we bought the one way on LATAM-£300 each for J one way.
IPC-PPT 12.5K Avios +£21 Y fare-Never saw any business fares.
Then used AA miles to fly PPT-SYD (via AKL) for 30K +£25 for J fare. (Y fare 15K +£25)
So not sure if you have zero AA miles wether it’s worth buying 30K as that fare is in the £1000 IIRC
We’ve looked at the LAX route Was hoping to avoid going all the way up to LAX but @Blindman67 I love this route suggestion! Will defin9see if we can make this work and hit some additional way points while we’re at it!

IPC-PPT was stopped for the pandemic and from what I can see, it has not returned. Shame as I was hoping to include that in a retirement blow-out.
