Forums Payment cards Barclaycard Avios Spending issues with card

Just had the card declined for a chip and pin transaction. Plenty of credit left. Checked the app, and no card is showing. Tried to log in on a desktop; error, call Barclaycard.

    Anyone else having issues?

What did Barclaycard customer services tell you when you phoned them using the number on the back of the card?

I didn’t have the energy to call Barclaycard CS. Thought I’d find out if it’s a wider problem before I faced that…

I’ve seen a few references on this forum to “call the number on the back of the card”. My card has no telephone number anywhere – neither front nor back. Why is mine different?

The telephone number on mine is written in very small font across the top on the reverse.

As for my issue, turns out they’d put a fraud alert block on it (although hadn’t alerted me to that in any way other than not letting me log in).

Apparently having £3k on two council tax bills, a few days later two small charges at Asda within a minute of each other, then an attempted £2k to a nursery the next evening looks dodgy (ok, I’ll give them that one!) Called up, passed security, card unblocked, nursery paid.

Have you made a payment using chip and pin before contactless, its a security feature of cards?

Yeah, I had. I think it was the two small supermarket spends (£2-3) within a minute and then a big spend… Exactly the sort of thing I’d imagine someone who had stolen a card would do (check it’s not blocked, then go wild… Although you’d imagine a real fraudster wouldn’t use a stolen card to pay nursery fees… They’d be pretty traceable!)

Having similar issues with my new card I got yesterday. Setup in the app fine, all registered. Paid for a small Amazon order online, went through ok. Then paid for a new bathroom suite over the phone (hit the spend target). Both showed up in the App as pending transactions.

Then went to the tile shop and thought I’d do a chip and pin, declined twice. Apple Pay Amex to the rescue. Whilst in the shop I opened the App to see any notifications, but app is now empty. Then went to supermarket to get some lunch and tried contactless and chip & pin, but nothing.

Can’t log into the Website either.

Now just tried adding to Curve and a no go.

    Not a great start

Card unblocked now. They didn’t like the transactions 🙂

For others that might have the same issue, see the direct number below. Answered quickly from the number on the back of the card (0800 161 5309) which I needed to zoom in with my camera.

More likely they didn’t like you hitting the spend target in a day. But good stuff. Get the voucher in a week and cancel it. Serves them right for not investing in IT.

I spoke too soon, card still blocked. Tried an online store where Mastercard auth popped up, approved in the App and declined. Then tried SMS auth, entered the number and declined.

They really don’t want my business!!

    Not just you.
Player 2 received card yesterday morning, and unable to use online – looks like 3ds or some other authentication related problem,.
Fraud team can’t see any issues and said “sometimes it just takes up to 10 days for the card to work” – which is just nonsense really.

Will raise a formal complaint later today.
How does a bank this big get a new product launch so badly wrong?
