I am trying to find a way to get Oneworld Ruby for a BA flight this summer (don’t need lounge access, do want to be at the front of the queue for seat selection in Y flying out of LGW). I have Amex Platinum (and associated hotel statuses). I’m contemplating getting FreeSpirit Gold (for USD99 via status match) as a route to a oneworld airline’s ruby status via a further status match challenge. Don’t suppose anyone knows whether anyone will match Spirit – or knows an easier route to OW ruby. Thanks…

Isn’t Ruby the equivalent of BA Bronze? If so, you only get free seat selection from 7 days prior to travel, at which point many of the good seats will already have been taken.

I think on this flight there are going to be relatively few Silvers or people paying to select… I am less worried about good seats, more about trying to keep a group of 8 happy (and not split up too much).
