Hi does a status Challenge for Platinum get Instant status or do You have to complete the challenge first?

No – unlike some (e.g. Hilton) the Marriott challenge doesn’t seem to give you status until you complete it, so you don’t get to enjoy the perks while doing the qualifying nights 😔

As GG says you only get the Status once you have done the required nights
