Got an email from status match offering a match for KM Malta Airways: https://kmrewards.statusmatch.com/. I genuinely can’t see any benefit of doing this, as any lounge/priority check in is presumably restricted to Malta only, and only available on KM flights.
Am I missing something?
It seems this is just one of those offers where it is truly aimed at frequent flyers of that particular airline, rather than attracting people who want the status/alliance membership for use elsewhere.
Yes, bizarre isn’t it.
An airline does a status match to attract people who genuinely want to fly it, rather than sponge off the associated alliance status (which costs the airline a lot of money) ….
Let’s just repost this in a different way using a different sector:
“Discount at my local restaurant – why? The local Italian near my house is offering 25% off meals this weekend. What is the point of them doing this? What could they possibly expect to achieve with it? I mean, it’s not as if they let me have a discount if I go to another restaurant at the other side of London which is loosely affiliated to the same family. Are they stupid?”
