Hi all,
Wondering for some guidance, i’ve got ba silver status until end of October 2025, now i’ve got a qatar flight tomorrow and normally i’d credit this to ba to try and qualify for status again, however with the recent rules change, if I qualify in the upcoming year (my year date changing from september currently to april like everyone) I will only end up getting silver status in effect from november 2025to end of march 2026 which really isnt worth any push for. Have I understood that correctly? If so, is there any other airlines you’d recommend going for status with vice BA? Was thinking QR as at least you get some benefits with their equivalent of one world ruby when flying on their flights which I will do. Is it much of a hassle to change the flight crediting from having my ba number in the booking for the benefits and changing it pre departure to credit to another scheme?
Thank you in advance
What other flights are you doing in the next year and what TPs do you expect to earn?
I’d do the assessment based on that rather than a single trip in isolation.
Remember any flights taken between now and the end of your 23/24 collection year also count forwards the new system 24/25 year.
Yeah thats what I mean but in the 24/25 year it would only give me status till april 2026 I believe? Given I already have status until end of October 2025 it’s not much of a bonus to qualify to only have an additional 6 months worth of status (i think i’m reading the new rules correctly but could be wrong)
I’m not sure if this helps or not but I’m sure I read the other day in chat that QR are also moving to a March-April collection year.

Thanks thats the type of thoughts I was after appreciate that
And Richie my membership year is September ending so have got silver since sept 2023 that will see me through this year and that then covers you for the following year also
It might be worth a read of https://www.headforpoints.com/2024/02/06/british-airways-tier-point-collection-year-changes-affect-you/ as a reminder of the changes.

I think that is slightly missing one angle. You are correct that if you earn status Apr 2024 – Mar 2025 it will run until Apr 2026, ‘only’ giving you an extra six months. However what you are actually considering is what to do with TP earned in your current Sep 2023 – Sep 2024 collection year AFTER you’ve already reached Silver. If you are not going to reach Gold they would gain you nothing additional anyway. On the other hand during the transitional period they might get you an extra six months that you wouldn’t have otherwise got.
I think the best advice above is to look at the overall picture of what you are planning over the next year. If you’re not going to earn the equivalent of Silver elsewhere there is probably little to gain elsewhere.
@alexm, if I understand your query (and the BA changes) correctly…
If my BA Silver status end date was 8/9/25 (31/10/25), unless I:
a) was aiming for higher status, or
b) had plans for lots of economy travel between 1st November 25 and April 26 (where I would need the Silver status for perks)
– my plan would be to ignore the tier point chase starting today, and plan all status/tier point travel for post April 26.
As others have said, the airline status you chase should depend on travel plans, and I would add to this the ability to maintain said status in future.

What status do you want to have on 1st May 2026?
