The BA website has been driving me nuts last few days, I’ve given up trying to make a dummy booking for pricing options.
Is it still worth starting in Dublin to reduce the taxes for a first class avios redemption to the US ?
I’m pretty sure BA yanked up the surcharge on avios redemptions out of DUB to the US anyway so any gain in lower APD has been offset by in the increased surcharge. After you factor in potentially a night in a hotel and cost of getting there assuming you live in GB to start your journey it may not be worth it
thats what i was suspecting. A while ago I flew MAN-DUB the day before, a lot of faffing about but saved a lot in tax.
its probably not worth the bother.
I looked at a QR redemption in Business (to Australia).
Surcharge from London was £523 per person – and from Dublin the amount was £250 per person.
So a total saving of £546 for a couple – which I judged was not worth the hassle / risk.

Is that £523 just surcharge or is that including tax and airport fees too?

Total amount – including tax and airport fee.
Isn’t the real advantage of Dublin clearing US Customs there and not the US? Tax savings just the icing.

The difference equates roughly to the UK APD and Heathrow PSC per person.

Only if you fly direct ex DUB/SNN to the US
If you are wanting to fly F on BA then you’re flying via LHR so no pre clearance.
