I thought I had made 2 Avios bookings to go to Tokyo in July 2026. I was using a 2-4-1 for me and my wife and a upgrade voucher for our son. I did so at 1am UK time as aware it’s a popular route.
I realised later that day I had made a big mistake and had booked my son to travel same day (i.e the day on which I had made the booking). I tried to cancel the booking but understand terms state there is no right to do so if the flight departs within 24 hours of booking.
I fully appreciate that this is my error and I should have checked more carefully, but I think it is made easier by:
1. the booking process defaulting to same day when changing the search – I had searched for an upgrade seat from WTP to Club, on the correct day but none was available, so I clicked “Change your search” and searched for Economy to WTP upgrade. I did not notice the date had automatically changed from July 26 to the same day (August 25). I saw there was 1 WTP seat available, and assuming it would go quickly, I hurriedly booked without noticing it was for the wrong date/same day travel
2. trying to do this at 1am to find availability meant I wasn’t fully awake and alert.
I called customer services but they couldn’t help but were sympathetic. I’ve submitted a claim on BA site but not yet heard back.
I’m assuming I’ve lost the fees, Avios and the Barclays upgrade voucher but wondering if any chance I might get something back?
Thanks
