Back in April I took a return trip to New York with a BA business class booking. I didn’t book it myself, it was done via the company that invited me on the trip (they would have used a travel partner, as I’m sure many others do).
According to the BA app, I only recieved 865 tier points from each leg of the trip. Surely that can’t be right? I don’t know exactly how much the ticket cost, but I understand it was in the region of £3k. Even taking away taxes and fees, that should still leave me with far more than a combined 1,730 tier points surely?
Since the introduction of the new loyalty scheme, some bookings made via some (usually non-UK) travel agents result in awarding a set amount of tier points based on distance and cabin flown. This is because the amount paid to the travel agent is, allegedly, not visible to BA.
So, 865 tier points is the amount you’d get for a Business Class (lowest) one-way booking where a booking was made via a non-UK travel agent. You can use this calculator to confirm.

This won’t help you now, but it sounds like you also missed out on an extra 800 tier points on top of the 1730, as you hadn’t enrolled in the bonus tier point offer. Maybe one for next time…

Just think – only eleven more trips for Gold status! Obviously less when registered for the Bonus TP offer.
It’s stories like this which really bring home the impact of the BAC changes. This isn’t an obscure disproportionately low fare which understandably earns next to nothing (as some slightly misleading previous posts have highlighted), it’s a real world scenario where large amounts of cash (albeit someone else’s money in this case) earn very little rewards.
people are really never happy, endlessly moaning because TPs were being linked to fares, now moaning because they are not
“large amounts of cash (albeit someone else’s money in this case) earn very little rewards” – isn’t this what literally happened ALL THE TIME in the beloved old system?
In the beloved old system, everyone knew what oTP they would get from BAEC.
In the cr&p new system, NOBODY knows what nTP they could get.

Except if you buy direct from BA you can easily calculate it yourself using the fare breakdown.
For BA holidays the entire cost gets converted into nTPs
