I have a barclaycard upgrade voucher that’s been sitting in my BA account and unfortunately I just can’t see us using this. We are a family of four and generally always fly together.
I understand there’s the option of trading the voucher for 7,000 avios although this was introduced after the voucher hit my account.
Would they still offer this option for vouchers earned previous to this – anyone else been in a similar position?
Two x 2 bookings using the voucher, or x1 and x3? It’d be hard not to get 7K Avios value from it.
I think you have to choose the option before the voucher is issued, so it is not a trade. There was another thread from someone saying they never got told or something, you can look there but can’t see it is worth the effort given you are trying to change a voucher issued before option existed.
Per @dougzz99’s comment, you could use the voucher to book for one adult and a kid so at least every child is sat with an adult. Unless the 4 of you must sit together, or you only travel in economy.

Even I managed to finally find a use for one of my vouchers, despite their limited usage.
Cairo in Club Europe FTW! 🤣
I’m no longer in de-Nile.
Cairo in Club Europe FTW! 🤣
Although I’ve not flown with them myself personally, and I’ve bad things about them, I’d go with EgyptAir.
Just about any other carrier will be better than BA using a short haul aircraft that has some dreadful seats for a 4.5-5 hour flight, some don’t even recline !
One of the fellow readers once mentioned, they’d give CE a miss and use Economy on TK for a flight to IST
To each their own, but if you look at how much TK charge in J to IST or MS in J to CAI, Club Europe suddenly becomes quite attractive. 5hrs is not stupidly long, particularly on a day flight, and there is plenty of space in row 1.
Would I prefer a proper business class cabin, of course! But I recently did Club Europe to IST and have no complaints – the crew were excellent both ways and could not have been more generous with drinks.
Both @Aston100 and I concluded, independently, this was actually good use of the Barclays voucher, given how expensive flights to Egypt are. Heck, even my EZ return from SSM is over £300!
