I may need to make a last minute trip to Hong Kong in the next few weeks. Avios availability = 0 so cash in economy it is.
The most reasonable options with short layover is either Lufthansa via FRA or Swiss via ZRH. I have never flown either of these airlines or route. Any suggestion on which airline/ route would be most comfortable given it is long flight in economy with elderly people with me.
Side note Swiss has options from LHR or LCY, both are possible for me, if you recommend Swiss, do you have views on which airport is better?
Thanks
They’re both on A340s which is cool as an av-geek – rare bird these days! Down the back there is really going to be no difference, Zurich is an easier airport to transit so I’d probably go for that. LCY is better for departure & definitely for arrival, a lot less walking etc
TBH in economy airlines are much of a muchness
As to LHR/LCY I’d go with which is easier to get to.
LCY is much smaller so easier to navigate but has far fewer shops / places to eat than LHR.
But there are more stairs / steps to navigate (down to gate then up to board) as there are no jet bridges.
I can’t comment on which of FRA/ZRH would be easier to navigate.
UK non schengen to non schengen should be one of the easier connections at Frankfurt but it’s one of the less easy transit hubs in Europe especially vs Zurich
