Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Sydney in First class and Singapore stop-over

    Hey all

I have a question about getting to Sydney in F. There are two daily flights to SIN (BA11 and BA15) but it looks like that BA15 is the only one that you can get from SIN to get to SYD.

The idea is to get to SIN and stay there a day or two rather than flying “direct” to SYD. What’s your experience of being able to get a F class seat from SIN to SYD on BA15? As I’d imagine BA would be keen to sell their F class seat for the entire route rather than just for the last segment. But I’m also sure there are F class passengers getting off at SIN too?

Any tip would help me plan this trip perfectly. Thank you!

Have you tried booking this? You probably need to use the multi-city option. Or just call BA and ask to book it with a stopover.

I can book with a stop-over but a long stop-over is what I’m looking for. So calling up is the only solution?

You can just book as multi city and choose the exact dates you want, but if there’s availability or not is another matter. You may find, as it’s not going to be cheap, availability is not an issue if BA would rather sell cash first tickets than, say, allocate the seats to an Avios redemption…
    Definitely possible technically though.

Singapore is a great place to stop on this route – The City is less than 15 mins in a cab to most of the downtown / usual brand hotels – if you aim for the area around the MO Singapore and Marina Bay Sands (where you must have a cocktail on the roof top bar – iconic setting) that will orientate you well IMO – I would try for 2 nights if the diary works – its shopping, eating and some great museums such as the National Museum of Singapore which is central and you can see a lot in an hour or so for a cultre fix ! – some great Roof Top bars too. The run to Sydney takes approx 8 hrs. If you go hard core and just change planes then you can for a swim at the Aerotel Airport Transit Hotel in Terminal 1……happy travels! Try to use any hotel loyalty brands for late check outs – Singapore IMO is very expensive……..Check location of hotels eg the Intercontinental is a nice hotel but set out a bit and not in the nicest area IMO – so researching is key to make the most of a short stop !

If you go to the BA home page and look at the flight booking box, in the bottom left there’s a link which says “Multi city and around the world”.

I have visited SYD but SIN is definitely on my bucket list, especially since I discovered Kevin Kwan!

There is currently one day in November with F availability for x2 pax and six days in the next 355 for a single pax, if BA’s reward flight finder can be believed. But if you’re flexible you never know.

Getting to SIN is much easier and a great place to stop.

Have you looked at Qatar? https://www.headforpoints.com/2025/01/21/book-australia-with-avios-virgin-australia/

This is the usual recommendation when going to Australia and I’ve just booked up for this coming winter.

Is OP not asking about cash flights? That’s how I read it. But if booking with avios this is definitely going to take a call to BA, if indeed there are seats to be had.

Yes sorry, I always forget to specify that. I’m booking with Avios/OB. I’ve done it btw, booked with short stop-over but I may look into changing it later on once I have my itinerary ready. I was thinking max two nights in SIN, then go to SYD and if I manage to pack in a trip to the Gold Coast I may be lucky. Second week is French Polynesia so not much time down there… anyway, still very much WIP. I shall give a call to BA to see what’s available.

    Thank you all!

You’ve found F seats on BA? How confident are you that there will be more availability if you want to change dates?

Glad you managed to find availability.
