Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club T5 Galleries South lounge or North?

Not sure but I think I’ve read on here that BA galleries south lounge is better than north lounge is that still the same now? I think the south lounge is further away from the gates but is that for all BA departing flight. We will be flying to Mexico City. Thanks for any thoughts.

If its to mexico its likely to be at B/ C gate so i would recommend going to T5B lounge which is far better in my eyes than N or S.

How can you tell which gate it’s going to be or does that depend on the day etc?

Long haul aircraft mainly depart from the B or C gates. Gates and jet bridges here have higher capacity than those at the A gates. You can check today’s BA243 here: https://www.heathrow.com/departures/terminal-5/flight-details/BA243/04-05-2022?search=departures

There’s not much in it in my experience. North lounge is smaller, but has a terrace. South lounge is larger with more choice of seating areas and is closer to the transit to B or C gates, which is where you’ll most likely depart. It’s a little while since I used either though. The lounge at T5B can be nicer IF it is quiet. However my sole experience of that post-Covid on a Saturday in early April this year and it was pretty rammed.

If you are not familiar with T5 and do decide on T5B and your flight turns out to not be departing from B gates, do read up in advance on the transit options and walkways between T5A and the satellite terminals and back again. It’s not hard, but you don’t want to be working it out on the fly when you’re relaxed in T5B and for some reason you see an A gate appear on the board 1h pre-departure.

Personally if I know my flight is departing from B gates (you can ask at the desk in the lounge and they should know well before it’s on the boards) I will generally decamp there an hour before departure.
