Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club Theoretical misconnection

    Hi

Im flying MAN-INN via LHR on an Avios booking using a Barclays voucher.

Now, assuming my MAN-LHR gets delayed / cancelled (6am), BA will have no way of getting me to INN on the same day. Should that happen (say because of weather), can I go ahead and book my own flight to say MUC or indeed INN from MAN (would be LH/Easy) and get BA to refund or would it all be a travel insurance job? If I can, can I book J class or would BA expect me to travel Y?

This is very theoretical but I need to be in INN that day so wondering what options are if things go south in MAN. In light of runway closures here in MAN, I just wonder. For example, if I know the 6am is cancelled, I want to act quick.

    Cheers

    Alex

@ekposh – it all depends on the specific circumstances on the day, what BA offers you by way of rerouting and whether that’s reasonable. You can’t just go off and buy yourself some different tickets without first giving BA a chance and expect to be reimbursed. You can’t upgrade yourself and expect to get paid for that by either BA or insurance. BA would usually be very reasonable with on the day rebooking (including to a different gateway such as MUC), as long as it doesn’t involve an LCC as IATA airlines work on a different basis.

Thanks JDB! Makes sense to me.

Next time, fly the MAN-LHR leg the night before and avoid the stress!

There would have been lots of missed connections yesterday, for instance, with everything being delayed while they got the runway de-icing equipment out.

@northernlass – I know, it was silly really but with kids and work and pets, even the night before can be a pain.

But fully agree in future, a 6AM from MAN with a 9:20 from LHR is always a risk! And that’s not factoring in the fact we need to get up at 4AM!!
