Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club Tier Point collection year

  • 1 post

    Hello,
I just wanted to confirm my understanding of the changes to the TP collect year.
My current year ends the start of Jan (card expires end of feb).
I’m currently 100 points short of keeping silver. All my current points were earned after April 24.
So am I correct in thinking my new collection year will change to April 24- April 25, all my points will be transferred over (because they were all earned after April 24)?
I want to keep silver, however don’t currently have any trips booked until Feb 25. So if I let my membership expire, but I gain the extra 100 in feb this will put me straight back to silver? Would anyone disagree with this?
    Thanks

Yes if you earn 600TP Apr 24 – Mar 25 that will give you Silver until Apr 26.

From what you’ve said you will never lose Silver as your current status is valid until 28th Feb 25.

My collection year has just ended and all my tier points have disappeared. I was and still am Silver.
My new collection year is now shortened until April, to bring everyone in line.
My understanding is that BAEC would give me credit to compensate for the shortened collection year.
However, I see no compensation in terms of tier points. That is to say, my tier points have been reset to zero and I have a shortened year in which to earn the points to retain silver.

Was I wrong in my assumptions?

@deerwood did you not read the email BA sent you in October about how the transition for people with collection years expiring on 8th November would happen?

Mine was sent to me on 10th October.

Also info on the website stated when the transition points will be added to accounts.

Aha, thanks for the reminder about the email. Yes I had read it, well, skimmed it. What I had not taken in was the timescale for the transition points to be added.

Will my TPs disappear on 31/3/25 or 31/3/26? I’m still a bit confused about this!

My TP collection year show as ending 31/3/25, but my status year as 30/4/26.

Collection year ends 31/3/25 when current TP will reset to zero, but as you qualified this year your status runs until the end of the next year, i.e. 2026.

Thanks – let’s hope soft landings haven’t been enhanced away by then!

If the final flight which earned you Gold departed before 1130 you drop to Bronze 😀

Maybe I hadn’t quite paid attention when it was first announced, though I had believed I would not have any “detriment” from this change. Now I have received the December expiry email, I will lose 9 months of Silver as it stands –

TP year end currently Dec 2024
Status Silver based on flights Jan 2024 to now, if I do nothing would have soft landing with Silver to Dec 2025
Transitional calculation Apr 2024 – March 2025, losing 385TP credit earned to March 2024 so will only have 300 TP earned in the transitional calculation
So Silver soft landing to Bronze drop will now be end of March 2025, so losing 9 months assuming I don’t earn enough TP before end of March.

I am pretty sure I have worked this out correctly, so not feeling very warm and fuzzy about BAEC at the moment!

You will still retain silver to December 2025 if you have already reached the 600TP. To extend this to April 2026, you’ll need to earn 600TP between April 2024 and March 2025.
