Tier point collection year and keeping status

I should be confident in my convictions but everytime I look at “my account” on the BA app I am filled with self-doubt. Am currently Silver with “Tier Points collection year ends
08 Apr 2024” and “Card expiry
31 May 2025”. All well and good.

However, top of the account screen says “Retain Silver 420 points” plus number of flights. Please confirm this last bit about retaining silver is nonsense- I’ll keep silver anyway until 31 May 2025 and whatever TP I earn in period to 8 April 2024 would make no difference (except the possibility of getting to Gold which ain’t gonna happen).

And then I’ll need to gain another 600 TP in period 1 April 2024-8 April 2025 (new rules) to keep until 30 April 2026 with no gap or earn 600 from 9 April 2025-8April 2026 to get Silver again from date achieved until 30 April 2027?

That annoying “Retain Silver” on the App makes me doubt my understanding and I’m planning on doing reward flights only until after Easter 2025 so no imminent TPs. Or maybe I am wrong…

Retain means requalify in the current year (and therefore retain next year, otherwise you drop to Bronze). However I don’t understand how you can be Silver until May 2025 if you haven’t already reached 600TP this year and therefore already retained it).

There is no 9 April 2025 – 8 April 2026 period, from 2025 everyone is 1 April – 31 March.

Re May 25 – I seem to remember some late arriving TPs in spring 2023 that should have taken me to Silver before 8 April but didn’t and having to contact Exec club as should have been well over 600 before 8 April but can’t remember exactly, maybe their system couldn’t back date the silver and I benefited from a manual update??? Now I think about it I have a vague memory of only expecting it until May 24 originally. I might be getting myself even more confused now.
Ah yes, re the new updated TP year.

180 apparently- so yes this whole confusion has arisen due to having to get a manual intervention. It didn’t feel like a win at the time (so I hadn’t temporarily forgotten until prompted by AndrewT’s comment) as had to hassle to get the right TP and OH account never updates for flown Avios and TPs and always involves multiple interactions with CS. And apart from seat selection have hardly benefited as almost all flights have been CE (no eye rolling, I like CE for flights > 3hrs) and future booked is CW.

In that case it sounds like you should have qualified in 2022-2023 and been valid until 2024, but they’ve made a manual update in April 2023 which has triggered a freebie extension until 2025.

You just have to hope that it doesn’t reset next month when you don’t ‘retain Silver’. Take a screenshot of the membership card showing May 2025 now. If it does reset that won’t help your status, but it might get you some lounge access next year!

Thanks! I’m glad that’s all cleared up. Think I must have filed away the whole saga: initial lack of status I had “earnt” (but didn’t show as TPs not credited in time) and then subsequent CS interactions in the “potentially re-traumatising memories” section of my aging grey matter.
As I didn’t officially qualify for the status to 2025 I can’t be upset if it goes!
