HI, Yes i have looked at hundreds of posts on various forums and each time i think i get my head round where i stand someone throws a spanner in the works and i am all confused again.
My scenario – i currently Silver status, I have 520 tier points that normally i would need another 80- to retain Silver. My tier point collection ends tomorrow 08/01/25 and membership expiry is 28/02/25.
In post Tier changes etc I would know i had to obtain 80 more tier points by 08/01/25 to retain Silver. I had thought about booking flights to get the additional tier points. However, I knew I was going to have to go to USA in Jan but after the 8th.
Now, the way i understood the way BA was going to work this was……… Jan 8th all my tier points (520) would go and would be reset to zero. Then a few days later the 520 would reappear in my BAEC account. I would then have until March 31st to ensure I got the additional 80 tier points to retain Silver.
My question is….. 1) am I right in my understanding of how the change/s will occur?
If yes, my next question is………. 2) does anyone know if there will BA still honour soft landings as has been done in the past?
Again, I have read so many conflicting advice on this issue.
Many thanks for your help – and please be assured I have read so many different threads on these issues. So please don’t refer me to a thread. I would be grateful for any help.
Michele
With the new year end changes, your tier points will be wiped on 8th and then the value on any earned since 1st April will be reinstated about 2 weeks later. That may or may not be your entire 520, depending on when you earned them. Then you have until 31st March to get another 80 credited for Silver.
If BA continues to honour what it has stated on its website regarding a January year end, and if you have met the criteria they have laid out to earn status, you should be fine.
1)
My understanding is that BA will only count TP you earned from 1st April 2024 through 31st March 2025 to calculate your status for Silver if you have not already gained it by 8th January.
So it depends when you earned the 520:
…if they were all earned on/after 1/4/24 then you need 80 more by 31/3/25.
…otherwise you only have until tomorrow to get the extra 80 TP (a quick return in CE), otherwise any TP earned before 1/4/2 will be excluded from the ‘carry over’ to the new earning period ending 31/3/25 and you’ll need more than 80 TP to retain Silver.
BA website says…
Ending in January
Your current Tier Point Collection Year will continue as normal until 8 January 2025. The status you achieve during this period will expire on 28 February 2026
Your next collection period will be 9 January – 31 March 2025
Tier Point Adjustment: we’ll add on any Tier Points you earn during 1 April 2024 – 8 January 2025 to work out your Tier status
Any Tier status you earn during the transition period (i.e. your next tier point collection period which starts on 9 January 2025 and is shortened to end 31 March 2025, with the Tier point adjustment applied) will expire on 30 April 2026
2)
Afaik there’s nothing formal/binding from BA.
Given that it’s an obvious question that BA is choosing not to answer, I’d plan on the assumption that even if they maintain soft landings this April it will be the last time.
Thank you all
The 520 Tier Points were earned from beginning of Aug 2024 to end of Sept 2024. So it, in my mind and what you are all saying, the 520 Tier Points being earned after 010424 should be reinstated a couple of weeks after 080125.
I ask about the soft landing because it is likely i will have to do another journey in early March that would be for a further 520 tier points. So if i am working this out correctly it would be 520 tier points i currently have that will be transferred over after tomorrow, then the 520 I will earn on my flights this month, then a further 520 for flights i will take in March prior to March 31st – that would take my tier points to over 1500.
If these flights were to happen do you agree that by March 31st 2025 i would have 1500 tier points therefore my status would be Gold until March 31st 2026. Then, depending on the BA decision regarding the soft landing i will either go to Silver Or Blue (or however many levels down the chose) .
Is what I am saying correct to you as far as you understand the new tier changes etc?
I can’t tell you how much i appreciate your help with this.
Many thanks
Michele
If you earn 1500 points by the required time this year you should have Gold until 31st March 2026, and then whatever status BA decides afterwards.

Thank you all very much 🙂
Sorry to potential change the tone, I am in a similar situation, Jan 8th expiry date, but I have 140 Tier points from a Qatar booking that have yet to post & currently 120 points from Silver.
The flight was in December & 3 of the 4 flights in the booking have posted, and the outstanding flight which has yet to post has my BAEC number on the boarding pass.
Where would I stand if these points aren’t adjusted prior to April? BA should honour the points, but would they do a retrospective adjustment in a new Tier year?
