Rob Burgess in his article on 24 Feb 2025 says you could keep a silver status using vouchers .. on 2 round trip flights ,,,, (See below)
Not sure this is correct…?. Using a voucher for an upper class ticket implies a purchase of a lower class e.g. premium economy ticket (H, K, P*) – and the tier points earned would be based on the the “applicable revenue fare” which in this example is the premium economy ticket (50 tier points each way) (see T&C 5.2.4) – 2 round trip tickets at H or K class would therefore earn 200 points, not 400. The only way I can see this working is if you purchase a full fare premium economy (W, S) – which earns 100 points each way on its base fare already – the voucher then could give you a class upgrade but the ticket cost is almost the same as an Upper class Z already, and more than double the cost of a premium H or K.
(according to my Matrix ITA search using a feb 2026 LON NYC 5 nights example : [Premium W, S fare cost £2033-£2093], [Upper Z fare £2063-£2263], [Premium H, K, fare £811-£907])
Am I understanding this right ? I would appreciate any advice since I myself have just this year taken on both Virgin reward cards and will be using the vouchers from next feb and july onwards.

5.2.4 Upgrade reward
· Can be used for a one or two-cabin upgrade eg. Economy to Premium or Economy to Upper Class.
· The upgrade reward can be added to any booking (excluding Economy Light or bookings that already contain a voucher).
· Virgin Points and Tier Points will only be earned on the applicable revenue fare and not on the upgraded cabin of travel.

Rob Burgess in his article on 24 Feb 2025……
“Earning two vouchers per year would open up an interesting cycle…
You generate two vouchers per year …. you redeem them for two Upper Class redemptions per year …. you earn 400 tier points from these redemption flights to retain Silver …. you use your Silver status to maximise the value of the next set of vouchers you earn …. and so on.
In theory, you could permanently keep your Virgin Atlantic Silver status by doing two Upper Class redemption trips per year. Keeping that status means that your future credit card vouchers are worth 150,000 Virgin Points each which makes it easier to take two more redemptions and continue the cycle

If you redeem points for the seat and apply the voucher as an upgrade, the booked fare is award seat business so 100TP per long haul flight. 2 return trips = 400 TP = Silver
If you buy a premium fare cash in H, K, P the tier points earned will be 50 tier points.
If you apply an upgrade voucher to that cash ticket to upgrade to upper, there will be no uplift in tier points earned.
If you upgrade a premium ticket purchased with points to upper, you will earn the 100 tier points.
