I’m 20 points short of bronze status. What are the best and cheapest options from London please? I’m near Gatwick on Wednesday/Thursday this week and hoping to minimise my time to a day trip or overnight for family and work reasons.
Do BA still fly LGW to EDI/GLA? MAN was scrapped some time ago.
I would say look for a domestic route from LHR otherwise, but prices on these vary wildly so it’s worth checking the “low fare finder” on ba.com which will show you the cheapest destinations. I think basic economy only gets you 5 TPs one-way, though, so you need to check which fare type you need to book. CE gets you 40 TPS on the shortest routes, which you don’t need, of course. I think there is a fare type which gets 10 TPs though.
Is it worth it for Bronze? (Genuine question – I don’t mean it to sound as facetious as perhaps it does 😉 I guess it will vary for everyone depending on future flight plans and whether you’d pay for seat selection etc, but whenever I’ve weighed up the benefits, I’ve always thought Bronze is one tier that’s not worth chasing, unless you can breeze through it to Silver. I appreciate that doesn’t answer the OP’s question 😉
I think the 10 TP earning fare is a domestic economy flight that includes a checked bag isn’t it? I flew MAN-LHR one-way on that ticket type in Jan for £65ish and earnt 10 TP.
Re Bronze status (which I have) I find it really useful to be able to pick seats 7 days before the flight and also have access to priority check in/bag drop.
OH had Bronze before I became Silver and Fast track bag drop, security and boarding plus being able to do seat selection 7 days in advance is definitely worth it if you travel quite a bit, especially in economy. It means you tend not to get left with the absolute worst seats at T-24!
Fair enough 🙂 Yes, I don’t doubt Bronze has some value, I suppose I was just questioning in my mind whether it’s worth paying, say, £100 or so plus however many hours of time to do an additional trip one wouldn’t otherwise do in order to get it. But yes, if you fly a fair bit then perhaps it is. Not so sure otherwise but each to their own 🙂
To be honest, the only reason I want bronze is to differentiate myself from every other blue member in case of an overbooking offload or similar.

Amsterdam seems to be cheaper than domestic currently. But to Gatwick it’s first flight out and last one back so I guess I’ll have to spend the day in an airport lounge.
