Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club Tier points run Australia

  • 6 posts

Hey folks, long story short I’m planning to go to Perth, Australia around May / June next year on my own and I wonder if there are any points runs i can do to make the most of the expense?

I’m pretty flexible on timings and route but I’m far from an expert at how to think about best options or book best options. All guidance would be gratefully appreciated.

I’m currently silver which I’ve retained this year through work travel but it’s unlikely I’ll fly much next year through work so might lose status. Membership year starts Jan/Feb.

I should also add that I have £1250 flight credit from AA that I could potentially use if there was a benefit to routing through the US.

You’ll probably need to book 2-4 separate tickets to get a decent deal, as UK to Australia on one ticket tends to be very expensive

You could look at basing the trip around the RJ+MH deal CDG-AMM-BKK-KUL, RJ+CX MAD-AMM-BKK-HKG, or the QR+UL deal FCO-DOH-CMB-CGK. Positioning to start one of those is pretty cheap. The last bit down to Australia might be as much as getting to Asia though….

The FCO-CGK deal from UL has been re-priced recently. It’s no longer as cheap as it was (gone from £1800 to £2300 approx)

Cool, thanks for both of these. Gives me a good starting point

How many tier points are you looking to get?

There was a thread a bit back about a travel advisor who will work out how to maximise the TPs for best value and give you a route which you then book yourself. I think they charged about £200 to do it.

There’s some solid fares out of Milan through a combo of Qatar Airways and Sri Lankan (it’s a Sri Lankan Airlines fare):

    FCO-DOH-CMB-MEL

That yields 840 tier points round trip (FCO-DOH is Qatar Operated on UL code, the rest are Sri Lankan operated).

You would need to back track from Melbourne to get to Perth but it’s only a 3 hour flight and you can redeem Avios on QF fairly cheaply.

Book through Sri Lankan direct, Sydney available too if you use the multi-city tool and input legs individually.

Roundtrip fare Milan to Melbourne can be had for around £2,300 in Business class.

How do you price it up? The Sri Lankan website doesn’t seem to allow FCO-DOH, so I’m failing at the first hurdle.

I am very interested in this thread with next year`s cricket in mind. Is this schedule ex-Rome or ex-Milan? Thank you.

There’s a great I class business fare on AA dot com CDG-JFK-AKL(-CHC) and back for £3750 – I picked it up last week departing 28 Dec staying around 2 weeks in NZ and uses Qantas for JFK-AKL leg.

Frankly this is the best I have seen out of Europe apart from Chinese airlines this holiday season

How did you get 28 December when they’re only selling up to 11th November on their website? Or is that 2024?

the quite interesting thing was the CDG-AKL came up on google flight searches, but CDG-CHC did not. It was only luck that I found the extra AKL-CHC flights included for no extra cost (and with the protection of a single ticket). Not sure if there is similar to Australia

This one was around a while back, I can’t see it now. Have you got any dates that work on Google Flights or ITA Matrix? Thanks

If you can wait until after 30 Jun, Oman Air and MAS will get you from MXP-PER-LHR (via MCT and KUL) for around £2300. 840 TPs.
