Forums Frequent flyer programs Virgin Flying Club Tier points using Credit Card voucher

I redeemed a voucher today for Manchester to Atlanta return. For my dates I had to pay 15k points and £247 tax for an economy ticket and then the agent upgraded me to upper class using the voucher for the 110k points needed (I’m Silver) and I paid the difference in fees of £561. The agent was very helpful but had to go off the call for a while to check he was able to upgrade me 2 classes which he was and completed both transactions on the phone. Overall seems a good deal as the cash fares are £4k+.

I wanted to ask though if I’ll receive tier points for upper class ie. 100 each way as need to plan to try and retain silver going forward given it doubles the voucher value from 75k to 150k. I read on some threads it might be the original booking class (econ) that you are rewarded on, which would be disappointing as I wanted upper class from the get go, but this is how Virgin choose to transact it. Is there somewhere in my booking that confirms Tier points to be earnt as couldn’t find it in my email confirmation.

I can’t speak to Virgin, but with two other Skyteam airlines I have flown with (and then bought a last-minute upgrade when it was offered to me), only the lower tier points were credited. But Virgin may be different!

You earn TPs based on the original booking class, so you’ll be earning in Y.
Section 3.1.6 of the terms: https://help.virginatlantic.com/il/en/policies/terms-and-conditions/flying-club.html
You used to earn in the upgraded class (or, rather, you could ask…) but that’s now stopped.

I’ve since spotted on the booking email confirmation it says booking code G, which on the Virgin website suggests I’ll get 100 Tier points (each way).
