Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club Tips for how to use 2-4-1 companion voucher

  • 25 posts

I have enough avios for London to Singapore in Club and would like to use my companion voucher to take my partner. I’m quite flexible on travel dates, any time in Sept, Oct or Nov would work. I keep checking the BA site but haven’t seen any availability at all on any day in the 3 month window.

Any tips or am I asking the impossible?

Seatspy is your friend, but this route is one of the harder to get availability. It’s not impossible but you’ll need luck to get it this year.

Have you checked using your voucher? Your best bet so near to the travel date is the extra availability it opens up. Also check from regional airports like MAN. There is more availability from these, as explained in some of Rob’s articles and threads which I can’t be bothered to repeat!

OK, you’ve made me do this now as clearly you need help!

Use your voucher to do a dummy booking. So, for example, MAN-LHR-SIN is showing lots of availability in CW for the first 2 weeks in November. You can wait and see if seats just from LHR appear at some point, but I think this is your best option if you definitely want to go to SIN this year.

First rule of HFP is book early – as soon as the seats are released on popular routes.
    Second rule – be flexible.

Just checking if OP ever came back to this, it could make all the difference to their travel plans!

It’s been less than 24 hours since they posted. Give them a chance dear lady!

Lol, I am just concerned that the seats might be gone – time is of the essence with these things!

Thanks NorthernLass, you I right, I do need help! 🙂
Yes, I had ticked the voucher box but still no availability for LHR-SIN. Great tip from you to check regional flights. My plans have changed in the last 24 hours so I can now only travel in Sep or Oct, but literally any day or time is fine.
I can see availability for MAN-LHR-SIN, silly question, but I assume I don’t have to fly from MAN, I just scrap that part of the ticket? Is that what you mean by a dummy booking?

    Sorry for all the questions!

Glad to help! No, a dummy booking is just where you check dates, availability etc but don’t actually book and pay.

You MUST take the first leg from MAN or your whole trip will be cancelled. Lots of experience of this sort of thing detailed on this site. Yes it’s more hassle but you need to decide whether the opportunity of visiting SIN outweighs this. You can drop the last leg back to MAN but again you probably need to do some research as it’s technically not allowed.

If you have time, read as much as you can on here about avios, companion vouchers and the whole world of redemptions!

That is a such a shame, I’m 45 mins from LHR and 5 hours from MAN! Oh well, it is what it is. If there is no availability for LHR-SIN now, is it very unlikely any will come back available?

Another question, sorry, is it worth signing up to Seatspy if I’m only interested in BA flights with a companion voucher?

    11,576 posts

Well, SeatSpy will show you what anyone can book, so that includes if you’re using a companion voucher, it just won’t show you any extra availability that the voucher unlocks. It will also notify you if cancellations come back into the inventory, which can be useful.

There’s no guarantee that LHR-SIN-LHR will re-appear so it depends how much you want to risk it. With routes like this booking at T-355 when the standard avios seats are released is the best way to secure exactly what you want. You’ve left it very late to book a highly-sought after redemption.

Thanks very much, all really helpful advise. How would I find a thread discussing having to fly from the regional airport so I can do my research?

@shead We can never say never to availability turning up last minute but unless you are really flexible with your plans I would take the option of booking a route flying from MAN if the dates suit you. You could of course continue to keep an eye on availability departing from LHR in the interim and cancelling and rebooking at the time but then you risk the seats being snapped up by someone else while you cancel your existing booking and booking the LHR departure.

Thanks @AJA, that sounds like my only option realistically.

A quick google throws up all sorts of things like this.

    Great, thanks NorthernLass.
