Did anyone else receive this message from Barclays?
Hello XXXX
To protect your account, we’re sending you a new Barclaycard to replace your current card ending XXXX.
Even though your card isn’t expiring just yet, we’re sending you a replacement as a precaution to keep your account protected against fraud.
It’ll be with you in the next few days, and you should start using your new card straight away with your existing PIN.
You can keep using your current card for the next 10 days. After then, it’ll stop working.
Any idea what this is about? I received a text message too saying “Don’t worry, there hasn’t been any fraud – it’s just a precaution”.
Seems strange – maybe something happened behind the scenes we don’t know about…?!
No, not had this. But given that back last year our cards plus numerous others all arrived in torn envelopes with all the details on display, it doesn’t surprise me!
Cards will often get re-issued if you’ve shopped at a retailer which sees an increase in reported fraud, so although you may have not been a victim of fraud yourself, others who have also shopped there might have been defrauded, and so the banks will do a blanket re-issue on all cards who have transacted there in the last x months.
So no need to worry imo

OMG this happened to me and Player 2/3/4 too! Someone definitely tried to do some fishing

Wait that wasn’t an isolated thing? My card also arrived in a completely destroyed envelope with the card falling out. All held together with rubber bands.
Called them and they said it was fine and didn’t replace the card…
Years ago, I had a similar thing happen to an old Lloyds (current) account that I had.
Got a call from anti fraud saying I had to destroy my card and that a new one would I arrive soon. They even went as far as to tell me I had used my card to withdraw cash from an ATM near my work that was later found to be compromised. After I mentioned this to some colleagues I was shocked to hear others had experienced the same issue. They were even able to tell me which ATM it was. Shocked to say it belongs to a long established UK building society!
So it goes to show, sometimes anti fraud controls are quite proactive and do serve a purpose.

ATMs can be compromised without the owner having been compromised. Stick-on devices which read card details and video the PIN being input.
