Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Tokyo to Seoul in business

A few practical questions if anyone can help. Given the BA JAL devaluation last year, is QR still the place to book such flights with Avios? Is that still done by speaking to them on chat/on the phone to pay? Is the cash portion payable in GBP as an option? Does anyone know if these are refundable for a small fee like via BAEC? If booking with QR can I change the FF number at a later stage to BA (say via Finnair.com) as you can do with say an Iberia plus booking – if Gold BA status allows F lounge access for example.

If it helps anyone – I learnt from @RK228 in the comments today that searching “Seoul” (on BAEC reward search) only brings up Incheon airport. You can search SEL or GMP to find availability – even though the airport field doesn’t populate with name or city as usual, which may imply to many that it’s not in the database – it is.

I tried booking JAL domestic flights through Qatar using Avios, Based on Rob’s advice that it was cheaper than going through BA. Although the amount of Avios that Qatar asked was lower, the fees were much higher, meaning Qatar was worse value. I didn’t discover this until a week after I had submitted the form and 45 minutes on the phone when I tried to complete the booking. The Qatar agent asked for the fees to be paid in JPY. You can see availability for JAL flights on the Qatar website but the fees come as a surprise when you try to complete the booking.

@Alex G. From what I was lead to believe after requesting via QR, you get a form detailing the reduced Avios and taxes and fees? But you are not guaranteed the tix until you pay for the taxes and fees. Can you just let it cancel and get your Avios back?
