Forums Payment cards American Express Trailfinders £100 offer “in-store only”

  • 101 posts

Both OH and I have £100 off £1,000 spend on our Gold Amexes and OH has just noticed that the offer clearly states “in-store only”. We have an itinerary made up by them via a telephone agent which we now want to pay for (via their Viewtrail system).

Has anyone used this offer in such a manner and had it work? The T&Cs do say this “Payments can be made over the phone, in person, or via the Viewtrail app to use the Offer.” Perhaps I’m just overthinking it and all agents are in a store anyway. Happy to visit a physical store to save £200.

Worked for me when paying on the app. I did notice it said in store only on the offer but the transaction seems to be processed as if it’s an in-store transaction even when paying through the app. Statement credit came the next day.

I’ve bought TF gift cards twice online and it’s triggered the offer. As always no guarantees, YMMV

We used the offer on our platinum cards when paying via Viewtrail around 6 months ago & had no issue receiving the credit which posted very quickly.

Thanks all. I realise “In-store only” is a frequent Amex offer stipulation which doesn’t always mean quite that and that T&Cs are sometimes downright misleading, such as the “Offer only applies to spend settled in GBP” for hotel offers.
Will proceed but won’t let the tail wag the dog. Handily this spend will take me over one of the gold £5K extra points thresholds so won’t even be earning less rewards than by using BAPP/Barclays Avios plus.
The gold card really does appear to be a gift that keeps on giving.
