Hello All
My son and girlfriend need a transfer.
Any advice/experience?
TIA
We used them several times when we went to Cancun last summer. Great service!
Don’t use Tulum taxis, they are savage and will price in dollars not local currency. Something you are not told until the end of the journey.
Transfers from the airport were reasonable though. It was only the tulum cabs which are a total piss take.
When researching this I found this suggestion but did not travel in the end:
Best option is the ADO bus. Picks you up right from cancun airport after baggage claim. Drops you off in tulum, then you can take a taxi to whichever hotel you are in. The bus costs $18. Beats the $120 to $160 taxis and shuttles try to charge. The bus you ride in is similar to what players ride to the games. It is comfortable and air conditioned.
The ADO bus is great. The taxis in Tulum are the most expensive in the world. Expect more than US$100 for a ride between the beach and the town in the night.
And, although this has not been asked, if your son and girlfriend can still change their destination, they should. Tulum has become one of the worst destinations one can imagine. Beaches have eroded away, Sargasum everywhere, restaurants terrible and expensive, traffic beyond belief, …
We got absolutely befuddled at Cancun. As you arrive you are badgered and hounded by cabs all offering a free snorkel or boat trip or whatever. In my stupid state I took them up on the offer. I got a minicab and it did drop me off at my hotel after dropping a few others off. We went to a time share talk in the Hilton in Cancun another day and then had our boat trip and snorkel with turtles. I won’t get that timeshare time back so don’t be like me, and get it all organised before you arrive!
As mentioned above the ADO bus works really well (if you’re staying somewhere close to one of its stops). We’ve also used Cancun Shuttle to book private transfers and had a good experience with them too.
If they want to explore the are a bit they should also consider just renting a car at the airport – the traffic is fine and it would allow them to visit cenotes etc. at their own leisure. With many cenotes you pay an entrance fee at a gate close to the motorway, and then drive a couple of kms on a gravel road into the jungle to reach the cenote. Unless they book a tour (which can be expensive), they would have to walk from the gate.
