I recently read an article from the other side of the points pond ‘the best ways to use your points’ and a round the world ticket piqued my interest. In particular the Aeromexico Round The World Ticket, which includes 15 stopovers and can be had in business class for only 352,000 Club Premier Points. The article went on to explain that as Amex points transfer at a rate of 1:1.6 this would mean only 220k points were needed (and a quick search there was previously even a 25% bonus although I understand this has now ended). This seems like incredible value.
However… when I click into any links where I’m told you can transfer you points on the Amex portal, I’m redirected – it seems Aeromexico is only an offered partner for transfers in the States. So sorry for the long winding message, my question is, is there any way round this, is there a way to transfer UK Amex miles to Aeromexico (it looks like transferring to Bonvoy and then Aeromexico might work but the poor transfer rate destroys any value).
Also if anyone has any experience of booking these RTW tickets I be really interested to hear more!
No way to get UK Amex to Aeromexico other than via Marriott that I am aware of.
Pseudo-round the world is available with multi-carrier redemptions booked on BA (Avios) or Cathay (AsiaMiles). Not as many stoppvers possible, rates here for Cathay:
HfP has an article on the BA version of multi-carrier.
Many airline programs offer RTW tickets, directly or indirectly. Id first shortlist the programs where you can get the points transferred and then look at which offers good value and availability for RTW.
Thanks a lot both, great advice. Rightly or wrongly I’ve barely used any points I’ve collected and now covet them, a RTW ticket seems a crazy enough reason to reduce them to zero! Sounds like I’ve got enough homework to do, to hopefully collect a few more meantime!
What about transferring MR to Virgin points and using them to book on AM?
Once you’ve got this booked, please let us know what you’re doing and if you’ve found any clever ways to book things. I’d be very interested in this.
I’m also interested in doing it on LCCs with a small backpack and no seats/meals, just to see how cheaply it can be done!
What about transferring MR to Virgin points and using them to book on AM?
You can use Virgin points to book on Aeromexico directly, but Virgin do not have a RTW or multi-carrier tickets AFAIK.
