My following three questions are based on my understanding that the new British Airways Club will come into effect starting 1st April and that since my membership year ends on 8th March, I can still qualify for another year of Silver if I earn enough Tier Points before then.
1. Is this assumption correct?
2. My work remit has changed over the past few years, so I’m now mainly travelling to Europe, and in the past year or so nearly exclusively to Switzerland. I fly out there two to three times a month on a regular basis, mainly on Economy. Is it just my impression or has it become more difficult to qualify for Silver with just European travel? Some Swiss and German colleagues who are Lufthansa members seem surprised that with my amount of flying, I still haven’t qualified for Silver this year.
3. What is the best way to bump up my Tier Points so I can try to qualify once more (for the last time?!) for Silver? The obvious solution for me has always been to book a business class trip to Istanbul, where I’m still going for work but a lot less frequently than before. Are there any other routes you could suggest?
Come the 8 March your new year will be April 2024 to April 2025
– so your last 11 months of flying plus one more month (March 2025)
– if you manage to get to 600 TPs (old methodology) you will be silver from April 2025 to April 2026
If you flew a lot that’s not imposible yet (will be harder in tbe future). And if you have some time off or can, you can maybe still try a BAH double TP combo.
Take a BAH with a domestic connection to Canaries etc before end of March, that will get you 480 points. Your collection year will end 31 March.
Stockholm-Malaga/Lisbon (via Helsinki) on Finnair in Business is around £530rtn for 360 Tier Points. Back to back is possible at Malaga but you may prefer a few hours mooching around the city or the bird watching area close to the airport.
Newcastle-Heathrow-Newcastle is £153rtn on BA.com if you split it across two dates (more for a day return), look on Google Flights. Take screenshot of Travel Agents price that is usually less than BA, book on ba.com and submit a price match guarantee. I booked a couple of trips on 30-Dec and one OTA was showing £109 so BA gave an e-voucher for double the difference (£88) which makes the fare effectively £65 rtn which is not bad for 80TPs. Getting to NCL is slightly more as travel agent price usually £138 but still makes it £123rtn for 80TPs. Back to back is possible at Newcastle and if brave you can slot in a Glasgow rotation between the Newcastles thus 240TPs/day x 2 = 480TP across the two dates is possible. This sounds complicated, you may not be retired like me and not as simple as a BAH!
