Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Travel Insurance for flight cancellation using avios reward flight and voucher?

    Hi,
I tried to look through the forum but couldn’t find an answer. I guess many of us use AVIOS to book flight tickets instead of buying a flight ticket. What type of travel insurance do you get in case of flight cancellation on your end rather by airlines?

I looked at T&C for many insurance companies and they do not do any compensation if you have to cancel a flight using avios points for whatever reason. We are due to go to CHINA which still needs a negative COVID test. I am so scared to catch it in the next 2 weeks as means I cannot travel on reward avios flight and it is super expensive to buy a economy ticket during summer (we booked business)

Is there any insurance company will able to provide cover in case you need to cancel your reward flight (BA will refund the point anyway) and pay out for other flight to your destination on a later date?

PS: this is our first overseas holiday since COVID started.

Nationwide flexplus account definitely covers points but I’m not sure about rescheduling due to illness outbound though, the wording more seems to be aimed at cancelling

Thank you. I have a look and seems they don’t cover Covid. Probably still need to before travel rather tha for points …
As there is 24 hours cancelling policy for ba Avios flight then you just pay £35 for cancellation. It is so sad that Ba doesn’t allow you to change flight but to cancel and rebook

Based on several friends that i know there is no official testing certifications is required but just to fill in a health questionnaire 24 hrs before departure. Perhaps likely can do a self testing to ensure nothing serious rather than pay money for commercial testing with certification.

    When would you be travelling?

Just double check the Chinese official website, it is indicate the covid requirement as self testing only and to be filled in the health form within 24 hrs departure.
