Hi Everyone,
I have a few questions regarding Amex global transfer, it would be nice to hear from your experiences.
I currently have UK platinum card and I am planning to move to HK later this year.
Questions:
1. Can I keep my UK card after moving?
2. If yes, can I change the UK card (downgrade/upgrade/apply for BAPP) after moving? (Or am I stuck with whichever card I held last while in the UK?)
3. Am I eligible for HK welcome bonus when using global transfer?
Thanks! M
My experiences are Singapore and a little out of date now but in my experience you can keep your UK cards. I still had quite an active UK setup inc owning a home I could receive mail at so did apply for new cards without a problem.
The transfer is all automated, you apply online as normal inc any bonus offers and there is a section to enter your existing UK Amex number. They presumably use this in their internal referencing but often when applying for any credit card you’ll end up supplying documentation, proof of income etc as the credit scoring isn’t as “online” as the UK
my experience may be completely out of date as I did this in 2016 from UK to US. As far as I understand the global transfer process is about letting your new country use your old countries credit rating so they do not shut down the old card. I did shut down my card because I wanted the two year break but I don’t recall being forced to and assume as long as you have somewhere to post your card you should be fine. I don’t know if you can change your card afterwards I presume it will require you to have a UK address to post a card but there’s usually an assumption You are a resident of the UK to apply for cards which you might have an issue with.
my experience with opening a US card at the time was you had to call his Global transfer which means any offers on the website you may not be eligible for if the co person can’t access it. but once I got my first card I had no problems getting bonuses for the other cards that I apply for and I did recall having a sign on bonus for my first card but it wasn’t one of those extraordinary good ones are available on the website.
