Since Sunday 11th June I have been trying to use my barclaycard avios card with Dunhelm, Homebase and Tesco and each of them has said its a problem with Barclaycard. I have spoken to barclaycard twice and each time they say my details are correct and I should go back to the retailers? Has anyone else had a problem with online purchases? I read HfP articles that there was a problem but has now been corrected, but unfortunately not for me. I do alot of online buying and I am now afraid I won’t be able to get the 25k avios points
Do a chip and pin purchase and it will be unlocked.
This should have been in the leaflet that came with your card.
All cards do this today to stop cards being stolen in the mail.
I havea supp card on my partner’s account, and my online transactions fail at the extra security step, I assume as Barclaycard don’t have e.g. my mobile details to send a SMS code
This isn’t an issue with Amex as we both add our supp’s to our own online accounts.
Is this something that could be resolved if my partner contacted BC or would I need to have an account with them?
Thank you Rob
There was no leaflet with the card.
I would have thought that Barclays would have advised me when I called them on two occasions.
It was puzzling as I ordered online with Sainsbury’s and there wasn’t a problem.
Anyway I am waiting for my card reader and hopefully all will be well.

My wife had the same problem with her being a partner card on my main account.
After a few attempts at getting someone at barclaycard to find the problem (mostly service agents were simply saying it was a fraud block or something else) I finally got to speak to an agent in their London office and she knew exactly what the issue was.
You will need Barclaycard to add a mobile number for your partner and then when it goes through to do the security check when they are buying something online your partner will simply get a text asking to confirm the transaction as opposed to having to go into the app to approve it

I have had the Avios Barclaycard for some months now with my wife as a supplementary. We have used it without incident regularly…until today. We both tried in Dunhelm on different machines including chip and pin method and payment was not authorised. I tried it later at the local CO-OP and it was refused again.
I was told by Customer Services that they have had a number of calls relating to the Avios card being declined by certain retailers but unfortunately could not offer a solution at this time.
Same here. Had the card for just over a year, and in the past couple of weeks, a number of contactless and chip+pin transactions have been declined too. Ironically, one of the declined transactions was at the Summertime Ball at Wembley which was sponsored by Barclarycard themselves!
