Upgrade from free BA Amex to BAPP

Just need a bit of advice regarding the BA Amex cards and the 241 companion voucher.

I currently hold a free BA Amex card and am close to reaching the £12,000 spending threshold required to receive the 241 companion voucher (my anniversary date is 27 December 2024). I only need to spend an additional £230 to hit this threshold.

When I initially got the card in January this year, I was unaware that the 241 voucher is limited to economy tickets. I have since learned that the premium version offers the 241 voucher for all classes.

my questions are:

1. Can I upgrade to the paid version?
2. If I upgrade, will I then receive the 241 voucher for all classes?
3. Since I have already exceeded the £10,000 threshold required for the BAPP’s 241 voucher, will this affect my eligibility when I upgrade?
4. If so, what is the best course of action to ensure I receive the 241 voucher for all classes?

I have currently stopped spending on my card to avoid hitting the £12,000 threshold, as I don’t want to jeopardise my chances of getting the 241 voucher when I upgrade.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah I’m interested in this. Myself and my wife have the free card, but we’d love to try long haul once for the experience.
Will they give any bonus points if you upgrade? The bonus points for new persons are very lucrative… but only for people who haven’t had an Amex for 2 years. Anyway I can get some sort of incentive for upgrading that anyone knows of???

You can obviously upgrade and approval will depend upon your income etc, but if approved, going by history, the system by default automatically generates the economy only voucher. You’ll have to call or chat Amex support to get it changed to a BAPP voucher.
Best way to avoid this hassle would be to upgrade before you hit 10k, obviously now that’s a moot point.
No bonus points or sign up bonus for upgrade to BAPP.
