Hi All,
Is there any benefit in upgrading before or after 31st Dec? I think I read that the dining offer resets each Jan for example, but does it make a difference with any of the other perks whether I apply this year or 1-9 Jan?
Do it before the new year, as you’ll get £50 HN credit for 2023, plus the £150 UK dining, and £150 global dining credit. You might not be able to use the global credit before then, but should be able to use the others.
Thanks for the advice!
Still no offer on my platinum 🙁 mistakenly took it instead of platinum, having amex already so no bonus for gold
If I follow the link https://www.americanexpress.com/en-gb/benefits/upgrade/platinum/ and then log in, it tells me that I can upgrade my current Amex Rewards Credit Card. If it do that, is it likely, that I do qualify for the initial 75k bonus?
Also will the pro rata refund still be available come may, as I would have signed up for the Platinum CC before Feb 2024?
Thanks

The terms state that you must upgrade from Gold to get the bonus, however, someone else upgraded their ARCC and got the points (their post must be on one of the earlier pages of this thread). I also had the option to upgrade either my Gold or ARCC, but didn’t want to risk not getting the points, so upgraded my Gold. YMMV.
I think pro-rata refunds are ending full stop in Feb 2024, regardless of when you took the card.

Not sure what you mean?

I’ve done it – ARCC and Gold on the same online account, wasn’t able to pick which to upgrade, so just upgraded the ARCC. Will see if the points post. If not, the credits and pro-rata refund (available for a little while yet, I believe) will leave me no worse off.
Will note I had to speak to Amex via online chat to add the dining credits and HN credit to my account under Amex offers, was easy enough but bear that in mind, they might not appear automatically (and the links under “benefits” said I wasn’t eligible at first).
Just requested the upgrade from my ARCC to Platinum. Got to a page where it says: “Your upgrade request to The Platinum Card® is being processed”. Lets see what the response will be and whether they will add the 75k Bonus to the account.
I think they may be taking into account total spending over a X amount of months for the eligibility as I haven’t been eligible to upgrade from Gold to Platinum since the beginning (which was summer 2022). This is because I split my spending between cards due to traveling abroad and I’d rather spend on a card that has no FX fees.
Does anyone know if they can upgrade if I ask them over the phone or chat?
In my case spending shouldn’t be an issue. Spent over 15k since July on the card. Either way, will see soon i guess.
Ok have been approved for the upgrade. Now just need to find a way to see whether they will load the 75k MR Bonus.
Should that become visible in the account itself?Ok have been approved for the upgrade. Now just need to find a way to see whether they will load the 75k MR Bonus.
Should that become visible in the account itself? Not always – to give myself some kind of record, I sent a message through Amex chat to confirm the upgrade bonus tracker (and the bonus amount), then ask for a chat reference number, so other CSAs can refer to the chat if required.
Amex just confirmed that the 75k is logged against the account and also loaded some benefits to the account.
Datapoint:
Upgraded ARCC to Platinum in October using the link. 75k points posted yesterday.I’ve done it – ARCC and Gold on the same online account, wasn’t able to pick which to upgrade, so just upgraded the ARCC. Will see if the points post. If not, the credits and pro-rata refund (available for a little while yet, I believe) will leave me no worse off.

Data point – crossed the threshold today, both dining credits and HN credit posted in December, 75k MR posted today. Still got the now useless Gold open alongside it, but all in all glad I took the gamble.

@QFFlyer – great news about the points posting from ARCC to Platinum upgrade.Do you have a specific need to keep the Gold open? If you think the Gold is useless alongside the Platinum, would you consider downgrading the Gold to ARCC?

Is there any way to understand what are the requirements for this to be on my gold card? Tried several times, all the time
We’re sorry. You do not have a card eligible for this offer.

No, no reason to keep Gold – I’m going to close it, I’ll probably keep Plat for the year since the credits are useful, but then reconsider and start the clock ticking again. It was a nice offer from Amex giving the bonus for Gold upgrades, since I have been storing MR points so had an account for years, but they’ve now all moved to my ICC and I had no use for it untl this came along (nice timing really).
I’m eligible for BAPP now, but have no specific need right now, so might see what comes along in terms of further enhanced bonuses in the future.

We’re sorry. You do not have a card eligible for this offer. No idea unfortunately – my OH has had the same, just a PRG and not eligible. I had ARCC and PRG, but was eligible, albeit seemingly only by upgrading the ARCC.
Just to double check something. My partner has just upgraded from the offer landing page. Aside from the landing page itself, there was no mention of the points offer. The email confirmation doesn’t mention anything either.
Further data point on this: I ended up upgrading my basic card to platinum and the 75k points posted immediately on hitting the £10,000 spend. My gold which it wouldn’t allow me to upgrade is still open alongside (same situation as @QFFlyer)

Congrats on the ARCC to Platinum upgrade (using a link that says nothing at all about upgrading ARCC to Platinum 😀 )
It seems fortune favours the brave 🙂
Are you going to keep your gold card or downgrade it to an ARCC?

Keep the gold for retention and then cancel, is the HFP way obvs.
Haha, thanks @Skywalker!
I haven’t quite decided yet. I might keep spending on the gold to get the PAYG bonuses (I’ve got a couple still left to accrue for this card year) and will then think about whether to downgrade.
I’ve never collected hotel points before but the imminent demise of hotels.com and a recent positive experience being upgraded at a Marriot courtesy of Marriot gold via platinum means I might consider applying for the Marriot card too.
