Diamond following status match over Easter, and now hopefully about to reap some benefits.
I’ve already had an email from one hotel offering paid upgrades, which I’m not interested in on upcoming trip. For some other stays there is a “request upgrade” button in the app. Will this generate similar paid-for options or a confirmed free upgrade ahead of check-in?

Other than using the new suite upgrade voucher (if that’s one of the benefits you select) you can’t request a free upgrade in advance.
This is Hilton, the suite upgrade voucher is for IHG.
To request free upgrades with Hilton you contact the hotel directly – but as this particular hotel has already made their position clear you’ll have to wait until check-in.
The 3-day auto upgrade is not guaranteed either, it can be reversed at check-in or sometimes you get a further upgrade.
