I’m sure this must have been covered before but I can’t find the answer.
I was planning to upgrade my basic BA Amex card in order to trigger a companion voucher on the BAPP card but have just realised that the spend required to trigger the voucher is different on the 2 cards. Hence I have already spent £11,000 on the basic card.
If I upgrade now will it trigger a BAPP Companion Voucher or will my spend to date be lost for this card year ?
What seems to happen is that the voucher is triggered but sometimes you end up with the one from the free card and need to speak with Amex to get it changed to the BAPP one.

It would only let you book economy redemptions.
so you would need to attempt a dummy booking to check?
I could see this catching out a few people, then having to ring Brighton, then back on the BA website to find the CW or First seats have gone !!
I don’t actually know but you might be able to tell from the entry in your BAEC account!
You should be able to tell from the name in your account:
– BA American Express Companion Voucher
– BA American Express Premium Plus Companion VoucherMy OH has just done exactly this. It took a few days for the voucher to appear in her BA account, but it now has appeared and says:- BA American Express Premium Plus Companion Voucher.
She has not received her new card yet. How long should she wait to downgrade back to the blue card?
