Forums Payment cards Barclaycard Avios Upgrade to Personal Premier Account From a Joint Current Account – Options?

  • 1 post

I have a joint Barclays current account along with a personal Barclays Avios Plus CC. In order to take advantage of the 100K offer, I wish to open my own Premier account.

However, Barclays website advises using the Barclays app to open any new Premier account. But, when I use that, it only gives me an option to upgrade my current joint account to get a new premier banking account. However, if I do that, will my joint current account be upgraded to a Joint Premier account?

    Yes.

Joint will upgrade to joint, just as sole will upgrade to sole.

I think what you need to do is to open a new account, and whilst you go through the process, it will ask you to confirm Income, and based on that, if you qualify, it will automatically open a Premier account. If not, you will get a standard account (sole) and then few days later, you can try to upgrade.

Within the app, lower banner (iOS), tap “Products”, then “Current Account” (the icon looks like a Greek temple 🙂 ), Premier Banking > full detail > apply

If you are after a sole Premier Account, the process is as described above.

If you are only after the 100k avois, there is no requirement to open a sole account. Once the joint account is upgraded to Premier, ensure it’s the main cardholder of Avios+ CC who switches on the Avios Reward Product via app. Then you would have fulfilled T&C of the promotion.

“You will be eligible for the Avios Bonus when you hold a Barclaycard Avios Plus card and Barclays Avios Rewards, provided that you open or join one or both of those products during the Qualifying Period.”
