Upgrade to Platinum from Amex Rewards Credit Card

Have a rewards credit card – to get the 100k upgrade offer do I need to apply/upgrade to the gold card first and then upgrade to platinum again?

Assuming you hold the free rewards card (ARCC), you can’t upgrade it directly to a gold card, it’s a new application.

It is sometimes possible to upgrade a free ARCC using the below link (not just a gold card as it says on the landing page):

I have done this myself in the past with a free ARCC, and it all worked out including receipt of the bonus upgrade points at the time despite the page making no reference to ARCC – although just to caveat that there are no guarantees – it’s just a “try your luck” thing.

There are data points around on the HfP site where others have tried their luck with upgrading the ARCC, and it has worked.

There are also some reports of people who held both the gold and the ARCC card, and the system only wanted to upgrade the ARCC!

I am not sure about applying for gold and immediately upgrading to platinum – someone more experienced will be along soon 🙂
