I earned the upgrade voucher from the avios Barclaycard a few days ago and it has appeared in BAEC very promptly (pleasant surprise after all the initial hitches). I did a search for 2 one-way flights MAN-LHR-JFK on a random off-peak day next January to see how it works. It threw up no availability until I selected the stopover option (which often happens on ba.com, presumably because the domestic leg doesn’t have the same range of cabins as the long haul). I was then given a price of 50k avios plus surcharges for 2 of us. So it seems to work, but is 50k avios right for off-peak? It’s still too early for me to work this out!
*I have got off peak pricing for another destination when removing the MAN segment so I probably need to do some more playing around with this to assess its full capability.
I was actually wrong – when I did a new search the system reverted to using a current 241 so watch out for that as you need to start from scratch and re-select the upgrade voucher (BA IT 🙄)
Mine has also posted plus I received a text from Barclays telling me so. Woohoo.
I have hit the spend threshold but no sign of any upgrade voucher yet. How do you first get notified ? Is it on the app or do you get a text. ..or does it just suddenly show on your ba executive club account?
Mine turned up after 5 working days in my exec club. I got an email maybe 2 weeks later saying it was earned
@kitster, is it showing in your account or app? You should have a spend tracker which will update to show you’ve earned the voucher – mine took a couple of days to show after I hit the target so there seems to be a bit of delay, then the voucher appeared almost straight away after that. Much quicker than they take to post avios.
On your account home page (not in the app though)
Thanks… can’t se mine yet ( from Barclays premier).. only been 11 months but Barclays app said achieved …
@NorthernLass it still does not show in my barclaycard app nor have i seen any emails or text messages saying i have earned it – BUT it is now showing in my BAEC account!
Not sure anyone else noticed this anomaly with Barclay upgrade voucher unless I am missing something?
The intention is to book 2 passengers’ return journey (for example LHR-JFK) with outbound in Club and inbound in Premium under one booking reference but paying Avios for 4 sectors in premium utilising the Barclay voucher to upgrade on the outbound. When the Barclay voucher is selected, BAEC only permits booking it as a one way LHR-JFK in club for 2. If “return” option is selected, it comes back as saying “You don’t have enough BA Barclays Cabin Upgrade Vouchers for the number of passengers selected for a return journey.” This would mean one needs to book the inbound in Premium for 2 at full avios as a separate booking with implications for increase admin and, for some destinations, extra charges.
Lloyds voucher used to allow booking whole return journey for 2 passengers under one booking reference IIRC.
I think the Lloyds booking system was set up differently so that you could apply the upgrade voucher to the sector you wanted. There are A LOT of IT issues using the Barclaycard one via ba.com! I suspect it’s going to take a call to BA to achieve anything but the most basic redemption options.
