Sorry if this has been asked before – I did search but couldn’t see the answer I need.
Recently completed a trip to Croatia – upgraded to CE using Avios. The outbound has been credited at CE tier and avios points, but the return has only been credited with Euroflyer tier and avios. My booking also showed that I should have expected 80 tier points for the return journey.
I’ve previously used Avios to upgrade a cash booking and had the tier points and avios based on the upgraded cabin. However, having queried the above with BA, I’ve been advised that you only get avios and tier points based on the original cabin booking.
What’s the correct answer?
You should get Tier Points and Avios based on the cabin you originally booked and not the upgraded cabin.
Sometimes the upgraded cabin posts. In this case, as you alerted BA to their mistake you are lucky they didn’t change it to that of the lower cabin.
Yep, you should not get the increased TPs when using Avios to upgrade, but the BA TP fairy sometimes gives them, just keep quiet about it in the future.
MMB is only a guide and it’s can’t always distinguish between a crash upgrade and an avios one. The former would get the CE TPs but not the latter.
You have been lucky and can’t really complain about not getting the extra for the return leg.
