Trying (and failing) to understand the Virgin points upgrade system.
I have c. 19k Virgin points kicking around – was hoping to use them to upgrade an Economy Classic to PE LHR-JFK. The reward seat finder shows the prices for Economy as 9,600 and PE 16,500. But when I click through, the Premium Economy cost is showing over 100k.
Basically, I’m trying to get a sense of roughly how much the upgrade would be points-wise before calling. But if I understand it correctly, it’s going to be based off the 106k figure?
There is no sense to the RFF. Prices on there are changing once, sometimes twice a day.
There’s a PE flight i’m monitoring that has gone from 58k-60k-47k, since yesterday morning and a UC that went 350k-180k-290k in the same period. t
Now even more confused – was able to upgrade the outbound flight for just 2k points plus TFCs. For the return leg I was quoted…105k.
Makes no sense. Virgin have basically undermined the whole idea of a loyalty program by having redemptions that change every few hours.
It’s akin to a supermarket changing prices whilst you’re in the store so your £ is worth more or less by the time you get to the checkout.
