I have a one-way flight booked on BA Economy from Jeddah to LHR just after the new year. The plane is a 787-9 so no club suite and from previous comments i have read the plane is somewhat dated and not the best in terms of long-haul travel. The flight is around 7 hours and there is an option to upgrade to Premium for £305 or business for £950. If anyone has upgraded from economy to premium economy – two questions – is the difference worth paying the difference and should i wait unti closer to the time of the flight to see if the price comes down?
I didn’t know the new system could offer multiple cabin upgrades at the same time. Personally I’d say that £305 for Premium is well worth it, whether Club is worth another £645 is more debatable. Depends on your circumstances and whether you’d consider the old CW cabin a positive or negative experience.
The upgrade prices are unlikely to change, or at least under the old system they didn’t, until very shortly before departure or at the airport itself and then only if surplus seats are still on offer, which is always a gamble.
I’ve found over the years with BA that the price is the price and is unlikely to go down.
Also I don’t belive in the this old v new plane. The old club world seat is still a perfectly good business class seat to spend several hours in.
We flew this route when it first launched. At Heathrow I was offered £500pp to upgrade to Business. We didnt upgrade but thought it was a fair price.
On the return we got automatically upgraded to premium economy. On reflection, I would pay for the upgrade to premium eco on the way back next time given how tiring Umrah can be and the better quality sleep you can get.
