Using 2-4-1 voucher for long-haul Business class

Hi,

Anyone know if I can use this on routes bookable on BA.com (e.g. Ho Chi Minh) BUT that involve connecting to Cathay or Qatar? (I know that the 2-4-1 voucher cannot be used to book on Cathay or Qatar)

Also, can someone explain why Avios is good value for Business long haul?! I just got quoted 260,000 points (allegedly worth £2600 using Rob’s 1 per per Avios valuation?) + £881 for a Rtn to Singapore = £3,400. Have I mis-understood something?!

I’m afraid the 241 can only be used on BA planes so cannot be combined with connecting flights with other carriers.

The maximum you should be getting charged for Singapore is 240,000 Avios + £600 for one so that quote looks wrong.

But in terms of value, the Froggee family is recently back from Singapore and the cost of our flights was 406,000 Avios + £2,820 + two Amex 241s which was much better value than the £11,400 charged by BA at the cheapest price seats were available for our dates. That is four two adults and two kids.

The above was off-peak one-way, peak the other and I used the second pricing option which worked out cheapest at 1 pence per Avios.

Using Avios without a voucher is now roughly a breakeven proposition in many cases but remember you will often be comparing a refundable Avios fare with a non-refundable cash one.

Only (almost) ever fly Avios with a 241 in F/J. Two F returns to East Coast USA for less than £3k (at 1p/p). That’s a cash PE fare. Avios is also great if they have availability and you need to fly short-haul at short notice. Otherwise I’m always looking for 3p/p redemption.
