Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Using a BA Future Travel Voucher with 241 and grabbing flights

So I want to book a trip that I postponed to the US last year and book it for this year. The flights get released in a few days, so I can right up and book the outbound. I’ll then need to ring up in 10+ days time too book the return journey. Will BA just hold the points, cash and 241 element until I book it?

Or should I wait until 10 days time and book the full journey?

You ring and book the outbound using your FTV with bundled 241, then ring and add the return to the same booking, using any left over points/cash in the FTV plus additional (still benefit from 241).

There is also an alternative if you have lots of avios for booking the inbound leg – you can book it yourself on the dot at midnight using the “full” price (as in what you would be paying if you used the 2-4-1) and then ring up the next day, ask them to link it with your outbound flight, and they would credit you half the miles for this inbound flight as they would associate it with the voucher (they make a note on the booking and credit the miles to your account).

Hi all , looking to book Costa Rica reward flights for Jan 2023 using 241 but in a voucher so I know I have to call . Am I right in thinking that’s it’s only Exec club phone line that can do this? They open later than other call centres and I’m slightly worried I won’t snag the seats I want ….and I’ll have to do it twice to get the return flights too !

@Keely yes you need to use Exec Club line, try global lines. Japan works well

Japan ? I thought there was only a UK line for Exec club?

Could one book (non T-355) reward flight for 2 over the internet at full price then ring up to have a FTV containing avios/cash/companion voucher applied to it with relevant components refunded if applicable? Suspect might be a no but thought to check.

    241 cannot be applied retrospectively.

Morning ! t-355- if I want to book flights for 15 January, will they be released on 24 Jan at 12 midnight or 25 Jan at 12 midnight ? Thanks

Keely – you can tell the exact day your flights will be released by doing a dummy booking and checking the latest available date. Then just count forward to your preferred travel date. I normally get it as travel date minus 11, I think, but I do tend to check every day in the week running up to a date I really want to grab!

Also have a back-up plan. My desired 3 J seats to MIA next December disappeared while I was in the process of making the actual booking but I was ready to start over and pounce on 2 x F and 1 x J to IAD which will do fine for my purposes. (In fact there’s a slight advantage as I can use You First in the case of any problems).

    * Or could be plus 11, I haven’t woken up properly yet 🤣

Thanks Anna . Sorry been out all day and there’s no response notification! This is useful.
I’m fairly flexible on dates but it is compounded by the fact that’s it’s an Evoucher 😩😩. I do need to have a back up plan , just not sure what that would be !

Might have to be a bit creative as Costa Rica isn’t quite as accessible as mainland US! I think you can connect there fairly easily from the US though, MIA would be a good option, I would guess, or NYC is always my fall back if I want good award availability with lots of options for onward travel, especially to the Caribbean region.

Yeah I was thinking Miami . Wouldn’t be the end of the world if I had to add on a few nights there ! Thanks Anna . This will be my first ever long haul Club redemption ! I’ve done loads of short haul CE but we were meant to be going to Singapore in Nov 20 then my husband got ill and then Covid hit …want to make the best use of it 😁

They have two internationally connected airports, LIBeria as well as San JOse. I needed a return ‘plan B’ recently and discovered CR is served by a surprising number of US cities.

@memesweeper – that was my point! There may be 2 international airports but that pales into comparison to the number in the US from where you can connect.

I used the “calling from outside the UK” number, yesterday (Friday) and got through in less than 2 minutes. I used a 2-4-1 that was packaged up within a FTV. I thought I’d get another FTV as there were Avios and a Tax Credit left over. To my surprise they refunded both Avios and Tax Credit. I got the distinct impression from the super-efficient woman who dealt with me that they have the ability to do this for you. Alternatively I may have just got lucky.

That’s the norm. When you use a FTV any residual is refunded.

I think BA only fly to Costa Rica Tuesday Thursday and Saturday so 15th January (Sunday) may not be possible

@suipedali which number did you mean by the “calling from outside the UK” number” (this one? (0) 207 949 3086) – surely the UK call centre is shut at that time?
