Hi
I have around 190,000 avios
We are a family of 3
Me , my wife and 7 year old Son
I have the premium amex card and the paid for barclaycard and just a few weeks ago
Received the BA x1 companion voucher with can be used in any class
I also received the Barclaycard upgrade voucher
Both triggered around the same time and have 2 years vadility
Is it possile to use both these on a single trip for the 3 of us
Or does me , ie the lead passenger have to be on the lead passenger on the BA and the upgrade voucher meaning it is not possible to go on a trip using bother together
I look forward to any info on this
17. The Barclays Avios Rewards customer or Cardholder to whom the Cabin Upgrade Voucher was awarded must be the person to make the booking using a Cabin Upgrade Voucher. The Member does not have to be the person to travel to use the Cabin Upgrade Voucher.
If only we had a FAQ section!
You’ll need 2 bookings, but it’s perfectly doable. If you find some of the posts where this has been asked before there will be all sorts of other useful tips as well.
190k avios won’t get 3 of you very far though if you’re planning a long-haul trip, especially with the upgrade voucher needing max avios.
Hi Northern Lass
Thanks for your prompt reply
I already have 2 holidays booked for this year, August and October
So happy to wait and build up more avios and book something for next year or before May 26
We just want to travel somewhere in business class return as a family as none of us has travelled biz class before
But in real business class, ie, not short haul
I will search the forums for tips, thank you
It is either that or I whisk the wife away for a 4 or 5 day New York trip without the child
My dream is Bangkok return in Biz, but that is mega avios and not must redemption seats around for that route

Youve started your journey. It took me a year to go on my first Business class. Just stick with it and your trip will be possible. There are numerous brilliant threads you can use. Check this out too

Yes as a family of three we did this year. Only downside of upgrade voucher is you really need to book out and return together whereas the companion voucher you can get the outbound and then add on the return.
Depends where you are looking at going to?
I would recommend maybe east coast US or Middle East as more likely to get this quite easily. In fact me and my son are flying first out to Washington Dulles with the companion voucher, hubby is in business but at least we can guest him unto the Concorde lounge which is part of the experience.
Yes, it’s perfectly doable.
Book yourself and son using the companion voucher, and then your wife seperately using the Barclaycard voucher.
As you don’t have a huge amount of avios, for somewhere like NYC or Middle East, it will be 160k avios for 2x off peak biz (J) returns using the companion voucher, and 85k off-peak for your wife
using the Barclaycard voucher. Taxes would be £350pp.
Now obviously you don’t have enough avios for that, so you can use fewer avios on the companion voucher booking (the Barclaycard must use max avios/min cash), to something like 100k plus £850pp, but it’ll cost you an extra grand to make up for the shortfall of 60k avios. I would either use avios boost to buy the remaining 60k at around 0.92p per avios, or maybe just fly the return in PE/Y, especially if it’s a daytime flight. BA only guarantee 2x PE per flight, so you might have to settle for Y.
