Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Using Avios for American Airlines

Excuse the silly questions, fairly new to this and struggling a bit, I’ve spotted cash flights for UVF to MIA next year yet cannot find them through the BA avios search at all, I’ve searched other dates and can’t either… What am I doing wrong? 😂

Which date are you searching for? There’s plenty of availability showing on SeatSpy, but sometimes seats on AA don’t show on BA at the same time, it’s to do with the type of fare.

Just had a look and there’s loads of availability on April 3rd on ba.com. You might need to be flexible with dates.

IME Americans snap these up pretty fast then often cancel nearer the time – this is especially true of Fri/Sat/Sun flights.

Mhy post answering this has gone into moderation for quoting 3 links. It’ll be along later

April 1st – 3rd, loads of seats. The following weekend I’m guessing they’re not released yet, or Americans have bagged them already, given it’s spring break season.

Was looking at March 31st using AA, was trying to figure out how many avios it would actually be as part of a few plans I have, the avios search just doesn’t show anything, would be good to understand costs

If you search April 1st you will see the costs. Think it was showing 14.5K avios plus £128 in economy. Each island has their own departure tax which dictates the cash element so you may get better value with cash.

Appreciate you’re new but I’m bored of answering this and also appreciate the search on here is broken 🙂

Use google to search, type headforpoints.com and then AA saver you’ll get these topics

What are you using to search? The app or a certain link? I’ve tried the app and BA search 😂

If you read the threads where I explained this many times, you’ll understand why you can’t see availability on many dates.

Just a standard avios search on the BA website. As @davefl says, there are other elements in play, but at the moment you can book these via BA just like any other award seat.

Select “book with avios” on BA.com and go from there, select UVF and MIA as your airports. There are 2 flights per day to MIA with availability showing on both.

AA using miles shows 35000 miles + 88.60 pp when looking on their site for the day I want..

AA miles are different from avios. You need to book with avios, unless you have AA miles, unless @davefl has a way around this.

Oh yeah I know! Just trying to figure how I can eventually get to it 😂

Then you cant book it with Avios. As I’ve explained in all those other posts.

Unfortunately you get much better value flying *from* the US as the tax is all of $6 😂

It just occurred to me that as SeatSpy shows availability with AA miles prices, presumably you can set it for the lowest amount on your route and that will translate to availability via BA?

I’ve always found AA redemptions quite easily so never bothered to get my head round the complexities before!

I’ve given up for today, will attempt again at some point 😂

Did you manage to find the availability for early April?!

If you’re struggling to find avios seats, maybe try super avios, aka cash. It can be redeemed using credit card and debit card, and potentially other options, availability is usually good, lots of seats on most routes. Earn options include work or webuyanygold.com

Also having done this many times take a print out of the baggage allowance eg if you are Bronze Silver Gold etc as AA never agree or know that for example Silver Gold get free bags – when travelling with my family that can work out expensive and eveerytime I have shown the counter staff the allowance they have not charged me for any check in baggage – they did try to charge me when connecting in Sarasota/Dallas FW/Miami etc and I believe its a staff (AA) awareness issue hence having a hard copy of the BA executive baggage allowance on AA being handy to have with you……

Last time we flew with AA from DCA there was a machine which weighed and tagged our luggage and it recognised my OW status so we weren’t charged anything at bag drop.

I think OP is a bit of a newbie though so may be asked to hand over a credit card at check in!
